This is especially important for large crews and
assumes that those people about to embark the Ground safety
aircraft have had basic aircraft training.
Prior to the aircraft’s arrival you will:
• provide a briefing covering the items required under CAA Rule
91.211, Ground Safety and the specific aircraft type about to be
boarded (Pages 6-13)
• be familiar with “Baggage and Cargo”, “In Flight” and “Emergency Fixed wing safety
Procedures” listed in the booklet (Pages 14-17)
• approach the aircraft individually and embark singly, with heavier
and larger people slowly applying their weight if the helicopter is
in the hover position
• remain in the aircraft (helicopter) if it crash lands until the rotor
blades stop turning. If the aircraft is on fire, passengers may need Helicopter safety
to get out sooner
• listen to the pilot/ground crew about where the exit doors on the
aircraft are as well as the safety devices depicted above
• help others disembarking the aircraft in an emergency
• be familiar with life jacket use and will have received prior Aviation radio
training in that use before embarking if flying over large bodies channels
of water
• move to a safe place away from the aircraft so it may depart or
shut down, or if crashed, will move well away if fuel is spilt
Briefings and questions
