Cassidy races at Rocky Mountain Quarter Midget As- sociation (RMQMA), Pikes Peak Quarter Midget Association (PPQMA), Southern Colorado Quarter Midget Association (SCQMA), I-76 Speedway in Ft. Morgan, CO, El Paso County Speedway in Calhan, CO and anywhere in the country where there’s a race they want to go to!
In 2019 she will be racing Quarter Midgets and a 600 Micro Sprint. In quarter midgets she runs in Unrestricted Animal, Hvy 160, Hvy World Formula and Modified World Formula. In the 600 Micro Sprint she runs A class winged and un-winged. She will also start racing the 600 Micro Sprint Outlaw class later in the year.
A racing story she shared with me is from the 2018 Winter Nationals in Las Vegas. She was racing in the Lt. World Formula A Main and was working her way through the field when she got tangled with another driver and the call was made on her, sending her to the back, even though she didn’t feel it was her fault. “On the restart I was focused because of the call and the 4 or 5 drivers in front of me were pushing each other all trying to get to the front to podium. When they all tangled and almost wrecked I drove down low and drove around all of them. I drove my hardest during that race and finished in 2nd place. I think it was one of the best races to watch if you were a spectator. I know I enjoyed racing in it!”
Cassidy races with other girls in quarter midgets and she is pretty good friends with most of them. Her goal for her racing career is to make it to any NASCAR series. Her fa- vorite part of being a racecar driver is the rush she gets from the adrenaline and the speed of driving; traveling all over the country; all the little kids she meets and makes friends with along the way.
“I feel to be a successful race car driver you always have to have sportsmanlike conduct no matter the incident,
be passionate about driving, having the drive to win, whether you finish the race in 1st place, advance from the position you start in or do the best you can with the car you’re given, always talk to fans; especially the younger fans, and to feel like you have reached your goal and then set another one and work towards that one.”
Like many other drivers who choose their lucky num- ber or favorite number and the first letter of their name, Cas- sidy drives #3c in the Micro Sprints. She chose that number because 3 is her lucky number and the c is for Cassidy. She never wears green on race days (many other racers also stay away from green when it comes to race cars or clothing).
She wears her race suit and all her safety equipment on race days.
Cassidy wanted to share the following with our read- ers: “In 2018 I set 6 track records, won a National Champion- ship, had three 2nd place finishes and two 3rd place finishes at national events. I could not have made any of the accom- plishments I have in the past 5 years without my solid sup- port system, my mom and dad, memaw and papa, papa Andy,
grandma and grandpa, my aunts and uncles, and my crew who are like older brothers to me. My mom and dad have been by my side, encouraging me to be who I am, to do what I wanted to do and pushing me to be better and work harder towards my goals. It wouldn’t matter what I wanted to do my parents would be encouraging me the same way. They have done so much to help me achieve my dreams and I am so grateful for my parents.”
