If a movie was made about Donna, she thinks Goldie Hawn or Julia Roberts would be a good person to play her... “and wouldn’t THAT be interesting!” she said.
Donna’s favorite dirt track driver is Johnathan Daven- port on the national scene and she can’t even choose a local driver as she would upset someone so locally, they all are.
Donna is known at the track as MommaD. “That is the reason I changed my photography business from Lee Photography to MommaD Photography. From the time I arrive at the track I am talking to the drivers, family in the pits and as many of the fans in the grandstands that I can.”
This year Needmore Speedway has new owners, Mandy and Kelly Walker (Kelly is a late model driver) and Donna is looking forward to working with them. She has had a few scary moments in the infield taking pictures (like many photographers have) and she was not sure who was the most scared her or the driver.
“I guess the scariest moment was about 7 years ago when Late Model driver #24 Kitt Sealy broke a shock coming out of turn three and had no control of the car. I was sitting on the back of the golf cart shooting in turn three and when he got stopped he was inches from the golf cart. I was able to jump to the side, but I could see the terror in his eyes thru his shield. Later he said, “MommaD I was saying repeatable, I’m going to kill MommaD.”
Every race day is a new adventure for Donna. She has been able to visit and photograph at other race tracks around Georgia over the years. This year she is adding Deep South Raceway (Go Kart Racing on dirt), in Nashville, GA. She will be at a dirt track every weekend during the 2019 rac- ing season. Now THAT is dedication! Due to still ongoing issues with her legs from the wreck she has a golf cart to get around the track on.
