Continue on the A591 through Thirlemere, Grasmere and Ambleside before running along side,
first Thirlmere, then Windermere.

As you come into Windermere, if you want to visit the The World of Beatrix Potter attraction, turn r.
at the small r/bout s/p “Bowness Bay & The Lake” and “World of Beatrix Potter” on a brown and
white sign.

the A591.

6.5 mi 54.3445,-2.7739 At the roundabout take the 2nd exit on to Windermere Rd, the A5284 s/p
“Kendal A5284 / Penrith / Brough”.

1.5 mi 54.3304,-2.7473 In Kendal turn l. on to Sandes Ave, the A6.

0.4 mi 54.3304,-2.7413 Cont. str. ahd. and cross over the River Kent. The road will now bend
around to the r. and pass the Kendal Museum on the r. At the small r/bout turn r. s/p “”Sedbergh
(A684)”

Expert navigator checkpoint: The County Hotel is on the r. at that corner.

Take the next l. s/p “Sedbergh A684” on to Castle St.

Follow Castle St. Look for the church on the r. shortly after the r. hand turn above. Cross under a
railway overbridge.

Now just follow the A684 through Sedburgh to the village of Hawes.

Side Trip to Hardraw Force and the Butter Tubbs

As you approach Hawes look for a signpost that says “Hawes 1 / Leyburn 18 A684”.

The other signpost, pointing left says “Hardraw 3/4 / Askrigg 6”. To visit Hardraw Force take that
left hand turn.

You’ll need to call in to the local pub, the 13th C Green Dragon Inn, because there’s a small
charge to visit the falls. £2.50 at last count.

intersection with the road over the Butter Tubs Pass. It’s s/posted Simonstone 1/2 / Muker 5 /
(via Buttertubs)”. Take that left hand turn for the pass road.
