                                           Dora’s Macaroon Cookies


                                                    1/3 cup of butter

                                        1 package (3oz.) cream cheese, softened

                                                    3/4 cup of sugar

                                                        1 egg yolk

                                              2 teaspoons almond extract

                                                2 teaspoons orange juice

                                                1‐1/4 cups all purpose flour

                                                2 teaspoons baking powder

                                                     1/4 teaspoon salt

                                             1 package (14 oz.) flaked coconut

                                 Optional: chocolate kisses or maraschino cherry halves


              1.  Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar until light and fluffy.

              2.  Add egg yolk, almond extract, and orange juice.  Beat Well.

              3.  Combine flour, baking powder, and salt and gradually add to creamed mixture until well

                  blended.

              4.  Stir in 3 cups of coconut.

              5.  Cover dough and chill one hour.

              6.  Shape dough into 1 inch balls and roll balls in remaining coconut.

              7.  Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

              8.  Bake at 350 degrees for 10‐12 minutes until light brown on the bottom.

              9.  Optional ingredients may be pressed into still warm cookies.
