KPI 3 | VULTURE AND STORK SURVEY
The collaboration with EWT in tagging raptor and vultures within Karingani was delayed with the onset of the
COVID-19 pandemic, however is still scheduled to proceed as soon as possible. In addition, the upcoming report
period is scheduled to have an added collaboration with Bird Life South Africa for the formal inclusion of Karingani
as an officially recognised Vulture Safe Zone. The expectation is to have this completed by the end of 2021.

KPI 4 | LARGE MAMMAL RE-ESTABLISHMENT
Further delays in the planned cheetah population re-enforcement were experienced this report period. It is envisaged
to be re-activated in the upcoming report period.
As mentioned previously the planned buffalo and zebra move from Zimbabwe is also scheduled for the latter half of
2021, COVID 19 and border restrictions pending.
This translocation is in line and fully compliant to the Karingani “Large Mammal Management Strategy.”
As a follow-up to 2019’s population re-enforcement of the African Wild Dog to Karingani, a second predator
re-enforcement was initiated with the Endangered Wildlife Trust to bring a pair of cheetah into the reserve. The
preparation documents and feasibility assessments have been completed for a potential introduction in the third
quarter of the next reporting period. This will be in collaboration with the EWT Carnivore Conservation Programme
and North West National Parks, South Africa, as part of the larger Cheetah Metapopulation Management Programme
and funded by the National Geographic Society.
