P. 4

A warm welcome to all of our supporters today and especially to the players,
management, directors and supporters from Chesham United who have made the
trip down the M4 to visit the South West Interiors Stadium this afternoon. We hope
you enjoy your visit, and trust everyone has a safe trip home this evening.
It is pleasing once again to see you all here for the first of two consecutive home
games, and hopefully you will enjoy the afternoon and match day experience. If
there is something you are not happy with, or a suggestion to improve things then
please let us know. We will always look to act on feedback and hopefully you can
see this with the revised ticket pricing for U18 and the new ‘can bar’. Sadly as the
weeks pass by it seems that the COVID threat continues to get closer all the time.
Chipping Sodbury Town suffered a minor outbreak and suspended all matches
whilst the 1 team went into self-isolation. In the Southern League St Ives Town of
                 st
the Premier Central have also suffered an outbreak and suspended matches. All we
can do is follow the guidance and do our best to keep everyone safe. Thank you
for your ongoing help and support with this.
We start today’s match with the squad enjoying a full week of rest following the
lengthy return journey to Truro last Saturday. Although the Bluebells came back
empty handed it was a fairly close game with both sides creating chances and the
result uncertain right until the closing minutes. Truro took an early lead with a well
taken chance from a corner with only five minutes on the clock. Despite this the
Bluebells fought back and enjoyed a very strong period in the second half which
culminated with an excellent opportunity to level the scores after some good work
by Olly Mehew. His pace allowed him to out flank the Truro defence and deliver a
delightful low cross which Craig Norman struck well. Unfortunately for Yate the
close range allowed the keeper to smother the shot. After this Truro managed to
wrestle back the momentum and eventually Alex Battle, fresh on as a substitute,
directed a sublime shot into the top corner to put the game out of reach in the 84 th
minute. Minor injuries to Aaron Ward-Baptiste and Nick Peare forced early
substitutions and with a couple of late injuries it was nearly a ten man finish again,
however Kev Brain was able to keep things going and will no doubt work his magic
to give the Gaffer a fully fit squad for this afternoon.
And so to today’s opponents, Chesham are one of the few clubs we managed to
play home and away last season before the lockdown. On our visit to the Meadow
we got off to a dream start with Sam Kamara and Louis Britton both getting early
goals to put us 2-0 up inside 25 minutes. The joy was short lived however with
David Pearce getting one back on 27 minutes and Karl Oliyide levelling a few
minutes later. The second half faired worse for the Bluebells with Mark Kirby putting
the Generals in front before Karl Oliyide netted his second to secure the win. The
return leg produced a similar number of goals but this time in favour of Yate and
very much against the form book with Chesham coming into the game riding high
in the table. Goals from the City loan players secured the win with Sam Bell getting
two, Tommy Conway adding a third and a fourth scored by Joe Guest. In response
the visitors did get a goal back and it was Karl Oliyide who once again beat the
Bluebells defence. Current form suggests that we are unlikely to see the number
of goals last season’s fixtures produced but you never know.
       C’mon you Bluebells……….
