THOUGHTS FROM
THE DUGOUT
Good afternoon all and welcome back to the South West Interiors Stadium for the
visit of Chesham. I hope that joint managers James Duncan & Michael Murray, the
Chesham staff, players, supporters and officials have a safe return journey to and
from Yate today and enjoy the hospitality at the club.
We come into the game on the back of two defeats and how we react now is going
to be key in our season. We cannot panic, we must continue to focus on our own
levels of performance and keep trying to improve in every area. The two defeats
came in different fashions in my opinion although in both games we gave ourselves
and early mountain to climb. The opening goals in each game were disappointing,
we have to give ourselves a chance in games by not conceding early but our
reactions were very different. Against Tiverton we went into a shell, made poor
decisions & put ourselves under further pressure, we
deservedly fell further behind. However at Truro we built
ourselves back into the game, were much more compact
and got on top in the game for spells. We created a
great chance at 1-0 down whilst on top, with only a
defender on the line we managed to not score and that
signalled the start of a momentum shift. Truro then
scored an excellent goal with 8 minutes left to put the
game to bed. We simply can’t pass up opportunities like
that against the top teams at this level.
Chesham of course were another side
extremely well placed when last season was
curtailed. They are full of experience and
quality at this level and seem to have had
the better of their last match against
Supermarine, so we know they will be
looking to react to that defeat today, and
we must meet the challenge head on.
We’ve been working hard this week to
prepare today’s game and whilst the
games against the most fancied sides in
the league come thick and fast it’s
another opportunity for us to show all
our supporters what we can do. This is
just the beginning of a long term project
to take the club to new heights, so far I’ve
been really impressed by our supporters
who have turned up in good number and got
behind the team, thank you for your support,
let’s keep doing this together, c’mon the
bluebells!
