The league programme took a break over the weekend as the Second Round of the newly
named Sky Sports Cup took place.
League leaders Rangers travelled to play SWPL 2 side Queen’s Park and booked
their place in the quarter finals with a 5-0 victory. Kirsty Howat and Jodi McCleary put
them two ahead inside the opening twenty minutes, before Howat netted her second on the
stroke of half time. Kirsty McClean increased their lead against a valiant Spiders side after
the break and Howat rounded off the scoring when she completed her hat-trick.
Glasgow City also progressed with a 5-0 win against Aberdeen. Priscilla
Chinchilla opened the scoring on the half hour, before Lauren Davidson contributed a
brace and Emily Whelan and Meikayla Moore added further goals.
Holders Celtic meanwhile made the short trip to Partick Thistle and emerged as
2-0 victors. Both goals were scored in the first half by Lucy Ashworth-Clifford and Jacynta
Galabadaarschchi, and Celtic also kept a seventh clean sheet in a row as they commenced
       their defence of the trophy.
Hearts met Spartans in what was the tie of the round and it turned out to be as
close as expected. Alana Marshall scored direct from a corner to give Spartans an early
lead, which was cancelled out shortly after half time by Rebecca McAllister. Extra time
could not provide a winner and it was Spartans who emerged as 5-4 winners on penalties.
Hibernian meanwhile enjoyed a much smoother passage into the quarter finals as
they scored eight times without reply past Hamilton Academical. Crystal Thomas led
the scoring for Hibs with a hat-trick and Krystyna Freda weighed in with a brace, whilst
there was one apiece from Shannon McGregor, Eilidh Adams and Rosie Livingstone.
Two first half goals took Motherwell to a 2-1 victory against Dundee Utd. Kaela
       McDonald-Nguah and Gill Inglis put
