The Championship table has closed up even further following Sunday’s
matches, with none of the top three at the start of play managing a victory on
the day.
First met third with leaders London City Lionesses playing host to
Southampton and the spoils were shared, the match finishing in a 1-1 draw.
Sarah Ewens looked to have given the Lionesses three precious points when
she put them in front with eighteen minutes remaining but once again,
Southampton proved to be a hard team to beat and Paige Peake earned them a draw when she
equalised from the penalty spot in injury time.
This meant that Bristol City would have regained the leadership with a win away to
Durham Women but they remained in second after also drawing 1-1. Leading scorer Shania
Hayles gave City the lead midway through the first half but the improving Wildcats hit back ten
minutes later with a leveller from Rio Hardy.
The main beneficiaries from those two results were Charlton Athletic, who are back in
third place after beating Sheffield Utd 1-0. Lauren Bruton scored the only goal of the game,
with ten minutes remaining, to leave the Addicks just two points off the pace after extending
their winning run to three matches.
Birmingham City are continuing to gather momentum and their 2-0 success away to
Blackburn Rovers leaves them handily placed just behind the leading sides. The Blues took
the lead through Siobhan Wilson on the stroke of half time and Lucy Quinn wrapped up the
win with the second just ahead of the hour mark.
Crystal Palace meanwhile leapfrogged Lewes in the table after winning their meeting
1-0 at the Dripping Pan. The Rookettes had gone
into the game on the back of three successive
victories but it was Palace who were to get things Durham Women 1 (Hardy 32)

Wearsiders, hitting a first half hat-trick and going Lewes 0
