It gives me great pleasure to welcome the players
, club officials and supporters of Ashton & Backwell
to the AJN this afternoon. Can I also extend a
warm welcome to the match officials today,
referee Adam Wilson and assistants Shaun Enever
& Jon Ferguson.
Returning to competitive football and to some
degree of normality is a moment that we have all
been looking forward to for what feels like far too
long . We must never forget however the impact
that this terrible virus had had on so many and
whilst writing these notes my thoughts are with
those within our club whose lives have been
both personally and, in some
cases tragically, touched by it. It has certainly put
a few things into perspective.
Starting with today I am hopeful that we now have a whole season to look forward
to ! The restructure of the Western League is sure to make life more interesting
still and sets the scene for a very challenging time ahead. As a club we have not
been idle during lock down , we have made our own structural changes,
streamlining the senior club into three sides , UI8's Floodlit , Reserves and First
Team . These changes have been made with the objective to provide real
opportunities for all and to strengthen the pathway of talented players throughout
the club. My thanks and best wishes for what lies ahead go to our management
team for their commitment to this and to all those behind the scenes who work
so tirelessly to make things happen at this Football Club.
Finally , I would like to thank Ash Clark who due to growing family commitments
has taken the decision to take a back seat from between the sticks , Ash is a great
keeper and has performed heroics for us on more occasions than I care to
remember. Can I also formally welcome a few new faces to the first team squad,
including Goalkeeper Seth Locke , Midfielder Sam Jones and strikers Josh Clark and
Will Hailston. Welcome to Keynsham - it's great to have you on board!
Enjoy the match and the season
