Chelsea have taken an advantage in the title race after they were 1-0
winners over Manchester Utd in the top of the table clash. Sam Kerr
scored the game’s only goal, midway through the first half, to return Chelsea
to top spot and with a lead of two points.
United drop back to second place, which they hold on goal difference
from Manchester City who notched up a 2-1 win away to Brighton &
Hove Albion. Khadija Shaw gave City a first half lead which was cancelled
out by Elisabeth Terland but the Cityzens, and Shaw, were not to be denied
and the striker scored her fifteenth league goal of the season late on to help keep their title
challenge on track.
Arsenal built on their Continental Cup triumph seven days earlier with a 4-0 victory over
Reading FC Women, which rekindles their hopes of a top three place. Kim Little gave them
an early lead from the penalty spot and Frida Maanum made it two on the stroke of half time. An
own goal by Emma Mukandi increased the Gunners’ lead early in the second half, before Leah
Williamson put the seal on a result which leaves Arsenal three points behind the two Manchester
clubs, with a game in hand.
Aston Villa continue to do well and made it three wins on the trot with a 2-1 success away
to West Ham Utd. Rachel Daly put Villa in front ahead of half time and Jordan Nobbs added
the second just after the hour mark, before Viviane Asseyi pulled a goal back for the Hammers.
