Newcastle East End reserves are celebrating winning the Northumberland Women’s League
Division One title after several years of hard work building the club.
The team is managed by Paul Burke, with Courtney Dack as captain and Melissa Park heads
the scoring charts with an impressive 54 goals.
“We started to rebuild the girls section from 2013 on the back of our successful ladies’ section
who won the Northumberland Women league and League cup in 2015,” Nicole Dack explained to
Women’s Soccer Scene.
“We have formed the reserve team from 16-year-olds who played for our U16 girls’ team in
2022 and did not have enough girls to form a U18 team, we decided to form a women’s team which
saw some of our former women players coming back and our current coach Courtney, who
captains the team, who played for Wallsend women’s first team previously, this also helps our
younger players to develop into our women’s team.
“The reserves had the opportunity to play in the Northumberland FA County cup competition
and they played Cullercoats women in the first round and won 9-1 which saw the team in the next
round against Bedlington Belles which we won 3-2 and we were drawn against NUFC
Development team. The result didn’t go our way but the team certainly held their own against a
majority of NUFC first team players and came away with their heads held high.
“The reserve team had big games against Wallsend BC Development and Bedlington Belles
which the first games we played against saw us draw against both Wallsend (2-2) and Bedlington
(5-5). We needed to play Bedlington Belles in the next round of the county cup which saw us win
a late result from 16-year-old Chloe Carr, who scored a brilliant free kick to see us win 3-2. We
continued to win every game and needed to play Wallsend BC, which would see us in a comfortable
position to go ahead and win the league, the girls played absolutely brilliantly and won 5-0.
“The girls needed to play New Fordley at home to secure the league title and see us crowned
league winners unbeaten. The girls had the bare eleven players due to the younger ones sitting
their GCSE exams and went into the game with no subs, but came away 14-1 winners and that was
the league title confirmed.
“A special mention to our goalkeeper Stacey who originally played in outfield, stepped in and
has done a great job in goal all season. If it wasn’t for Stacey, the girls would have to take turns
each week in goal! Big well done.
“Also a big thanks to our Manager Tosh who goes above and beyond for the full girls section
at NEEFC, thanks to Trevor who also stepped in and helped coach the team. Nicole for sorting all
match day arrangements etc. Thank you to Kelly Scott and all the team at NEEFC for believing in
the women’s team.”
