Cardiff City Women were aiming to wrap up their league season unbeaten and opened the
doors at Cardiff City stadium for their final game against runners-up Swansea City. The hosts
had the better of the opening minutes but it was the Swans who hit first with a fine strike by Katy
Hosford, before Lily Billingham equalised both the score and quality of goal four minutes later
to see the sides level at the break. The opening minutes of the second half saw chances at both
ends but this time it was the Bluebirds who took the lead, Rhianne Oakley putting her name to
the scoresheet before substitute Zoe Atkins cut her way through the Swansea defence to add a
third and wrap up the final three points of the season with a 3-1 victory.
Following the game Gail Powell, the Adran Premier representative on the FAW National
League Board, presented the Genero Adran Premier trophy to Cardiff City.
In the weekend’s other game there was just as much drama, as The New Saints travelled
to Cardiff Met Women, with goals aplenty for the crowd at Cyncoed. The Saints opened the
scoring with Chantelle Teare striking after just 12 minutes but Archers’ Ellie Preece hit back just
seven minutes later and she grabbed a second just on half time. Teare didn’t waste any time after
the restart to get her second to make it 2-2, before two goals in two minutes saw Robyn Pinder
put the hosts back in front before Teare completed her hat-trick to once again level things up.
Ruby Colleton got her first ever Adran Premier league goal just three minutes after coming on
for Met but once again, TNS refused to let them have the advantage for long, this time Emily
Ridge hitting the back of the net and Teare stepped up with her fourth goal two minutes later to
put the visitors in front and this time Met couldn’t find a reply, TNS winning a thrilling match
5-4.
These two games concluded the 2022-23 Genero Adran Premier league season and it has
been a memorable eight months of top flight
football with some very special milestones
