Bristol City have put themselves in a position where they can clinch the
title this Sunday, after they stormed to a 5-0 victory away to Sunderland.
A double from Shania Hayles put City in control of matters at half time and
Ella Powell made it three after the break. Jasmine Bull and Abi Harrison
then added further goals late on to crown the win for City who host
Charlton Athletic at Ashton Gate this Sunday, knowing that a win would
put them in an unassailable position.
Birmingham City are making a late bid for promotion and are in the top two for the
first time this season after maximum points from two games. Claudia Walker scored twice
along with Jade Pennock and Lucy Quinn on Sunday as the Blues won 4-2 away to Crystal
Palace, Coral-Jade Haines and Molly-Mae Sharpe replying, and they followed this up with
a 1-0 victory over Durham Women, a solitary goal from Tara Bourne leaving Birmingham
hoping to capitalise on any slip up by the leaders.
London City Lionesses’ hopes appear to be over after they went down to a 1-0
defeat at Southampton. Katie Wilkinson scored the only goal of the game with seven
minutes remaining to deal what looks like to be a fatal blow to the visitors’ title hopes.
