We talk to…..
Nic Worthington (Burnley FC Women)
Burnley FC Women picked up their first league win since
November when they beat Loughborough Foxes 2-0 on
Sunday, in only their third match in that period.
We talked to Burnley midfielder Nic Worthington, who
was delighted to get back to winning ways again and admitted
that they are still searching for a top two place:
NW: Absolutely, we know as a group we haven't been
performing to our best after the Christmas break so getting
three points on Sunday was massive and hopefully we can
now push on for the remainder of our season.
NW: The four to five weeks off wasn't ideal. We obviously keep
training but it's not the same intensity as a match day. We
started strong but in the second half we dropped off the
intensity and Stoke had the edge.
NW: I believe we were the strongest team, however 1-0 is never a secure scoreline in football.
Our keeper Emily Gibbins played with the team for the first time this season and had to pull off
some excellent saves. I did feel very confident, especially in the second half, we proved to be
dominant in and out of possession and limited Loughborough’s chances.
NW: It has been very, very difficult to gain any sort of momentum after the Christmas period.
We want to play every weekend to maintain our intensity and keep building on our
performance level. However, with games being cancelled we can't do this. We have to make
sure that in training we are working 110% to maintain our fitness and sharpness.
NW: Hull are battling hard at the bottom end of the table so it won't be an easy game. We
played them in the FA Cup earlier in the season and they proved a tough test. They will be
wanting to get a result on the day and will prove a strong opposition for us once again.
NW: Yes, Sunderland are stretching their lead every week now and proving a formidable team.
We still have plenty of games in hand and I think second is the target now but any top half
position will be a remarkable achievement for our first season in the National League North.
We still have Sunderland to play twice, once at home and away. I will be looking forward to that.
