Late White goal gives England win

       England 1 (White 83)
       Japan 0
Ellen White scored a late winner to give England a 1-0 victory over Japan in their second match at
       the SheBelieves Cup.
England got their SheBelieves Cup title defence up and running with a 1-0 victory over
Japan, thanks to a trademark Ellen White goal. Both sides struggled to forge clear cut chances as
Phil Neville opted for a refreshed line up to the one that lost 2-0 to the USA on Friday morning.
But ultimately it was a combination of two of England's more experienced players that led
to White's winner eight minutes from time in New Jersey as fellow substitute Toni Duggan laid on
the chance for her strike partner.
Teenager Lauren Hemp, on her second consecutive start, very nearly gave Neville's side
the perfect start when she went through one-on-one with goalkeeper Sakiko Ikeda but her effort
       was well-saved.
Chloe Kelly then put Beth England in on goal ten minutes later, but the Chelsea striker
was unable to finish the chance despite her red-hot form for club this season.
England then had another good opportunity to score on the half-hour mark, this time
played in by Jordan Nobbs, but again Ikeda stood firm.
Neville made a raft of changes in the second half, including the introduction of some more
experienced forwards in the form of White and Duggan.
It was a combination of the substitutes that ultimately resulted in the winner as Duggan
robbed a Japanese defender as they passed the ball around their back four and picked out White
for a simple finish from ten yards out.
Japan will be disappointed by the way they gave the ball away in the lead up to the goal,
but that didn't stop White pulling out the trademark celebration on her 91st England appearance.

       Cup campaign ends in defeat
       England 0
       Spain 1 (Putellas 83)
England's final game of their disappointing SheBelieves Cup campaign ended in defeat as they
       were beaten 1-0 by Spain
England were undone by a set piece goal as they were beaten 1-0 by Spain in their third
and final game, which resulted in a second defeat in their defence of the trophy. The most
disappointing aspect of the game was England’s failure to hit the target with a single shot during
       the course of the match.
It was a tale of two halves in Texas and Phil Neville’s side had numerous chances to get
their noses in front before the break. But the Spaniards grew into the game during the second half
and eventually got the breakthrough with seven minutes left as Alexia Putellas rifled a header
       home from a corner.
Nikita Parris provided England’s first real piece of quality in the game with a jinking run
down the right wing and then into the box but couldn’t pick out a team mate.
Ellen White, who scored twice last time the two teams faced each other, was then played
in by skipper for the night Jill Scott but blasted her effort over the bar.
