League Review Sat 29 October
Poole Town missed the opportunity to move level on points with third-placed Chesham United in
a reduced Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South fixture list after losing 2-1 at
Tiverton Town on Saturday. Jack Fanning gave Tiverton a 35th-minute lead at the Ian Moorcroft
Stadium. But 5 minutes after half-time, Wes Fogden pulled the Dolphins back on level terms. It
was Lucas Vowles who pounced to net the Devonians` winner in the 77th minute.
Dorchester Town inflicted a third successive defeat on Salisbury and move up to seventh in the
table. The Magpies won 1-0 at the Avenue Stadium in front of a crowd of 657, courtesy of a 75th-
minute Charlie Gunson effort.
And it’s seven matches without a win now for Gosport Borough after they lost 2-0 at Silver Jubilee
Park against a Hendon side that recorded back-to-back wins to move up to third-from-bottom
spot. Joe White put the Greens in front after just 5 minutes and Dave Diedhiou doubled their
advantage on the half-hour mark. What was already a difficult task for Boro got even harder in
the second half when they had Danny Hollands sent-off for a second yellow card offence just shy
of the hour-mark and then had Harvey Rew dismissed with a straight red card with 17 minutes
remaining.
Merthyr Town were looking for a decent warm-up ahead of their Emirates FA Cup First Round tie
at Buxton next weekend when they hosted Metropolitan Police at the Met Coaches Stadium. But
the Martyrs were beaten 2-1 in front of a crowd of 568.
The Met took an early 9th-minute lead through Herson Rodrigues-Alves. And on 21 minutes, Josh
Keeya made it 2-0 to the visitors. Ricardo Rees pulled one back for Merthyr 6 minutes before the
break, but, thanks to a couple of good saves from Liam Beach in the second half, the Met held on
for three points which lifts them up to seventh spot.
With the top two in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South not in action on
Saturday, it was a chance for the chasing pack to close the gap on Sholing and Exmouth Town.
Frome Town could have moved into second place if they won at the First 4 Pools Stadium,
Winterfield Road against Paulton Rovers. However, a 3-2 win for the hosts lifted them into fifth
spot. A crowd of 407 saw Kyle Tooze put Rovers ahead after 15 minutes, only for Mike Baker to
equalise 8 minutes later. Mircea Ilea restored Paulton’s lead in the 33rd minute and then a minute
before half-time, Will Harvey made it 3-1.
James Ollis `won` the second half for Frome but they couldn’t find a leveller.
Evesham United are fourth after they won 2-1 at home against fourth-from-bottom Bideford AFC.
Chris Knowles gave the home Robins the lead on the half-hour mark.
Lewis Brooks pulled the away Robins back on terms 10 minutes after half-time, but Kyle Belmonte
won it for Mike Ford’s men with 15 minutes remaining.
Westbury United are now sixth, just a point behind Paulton Rovers, after they edged a 1-0 home
win over the team who came up with them at the end of last season, Bishops Cleeve. Aaron
Cockerill’s 58th-minute effort eventually proved enough for Westbury.
You wait ten matches for a first win – and then two come back-to-back for Lymington Town! The
Linnets edged out Melksham Town by the odd goal in five at the Sports Ground, taking a 6th-
minute lead through Karol Skoczen. Ralph Graham equalised in the 14th minute but shortly before
the hour-mark, veteran Craig McAllister put the ball in his own net to give the visitors the lead.
Tom Andrews pulled Lymington level in the 82nd minute, but just as a draw seemed the most
likely outcome, Dominic Thelen pounced to score the Linnets winner 7 minutes into time added
on at the end of the game.
Second-from-bottom Larkhall Athletic also won, beating Willand Rovers 2-1 at Plain Ham. Max
Williams after 11 minutes and Harry Warwick in the 39th minute had the Larks two-up at the
break. Lewis Hill pulled one back 15 minutes from time, but Rovers couldn’t find a leveller.
Cinderford Town made it six games without a win after losing 2-1 at the Causeway Ground to
Bashley. Harvey Slade had the visitors in front on the half-hour mark.
Ben Brooks equalised with 20 minutes remaining, but the experienced Matt Tubbs headed Bash’s
winner 4 minutes into stoppage time.
