The Barclays FA WSL
It’s as you were after Friday night’s top of the table clash left Arsenal still
two points ahead of Chelsea, who have a game in hand after their meeting
finished goalless. Both teams went close to scoring but the draw leaves
things tight between the two sides as we go into the international break.
Tottenham Hotspur have hopped back into the other
Champions League spot after they won 2-0 away to Birmingham City.
Ashleigh Neville scored for the second week in a row, to give Spurs the lead
midway through the second half and Ria Percival added the second late
on, to keep up her side’s chase for a top three place but deal another blow
to the Blues’ hopes of getting away from danger.
The Manchester derby was a vital one for both clubs and it was Manchester City who
were 1-0 winners over Manchester Utd. A solitary goal from Caroline Weir, nine minutes
from time, rekindled City’s Champions League hopes and took United out of the top three
whilst City are up to fifth, two points behind United and a further two points adrift of third
placed Tottenham.
Reading FC Women’s superb run of form was brought to a crashing halt as they
were beaten 4-1 by Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls led at the break with a goal from
Kayleigh Green and the Welsh international added another early in the second half. Aileen
Whelan made it three on the hour and Emma Koivisto rounded off the scoring for Hope
Powell’s side, before the Royals grabbed a late consolation through Amalie Eikeland.
Aston Villa moved themselves closer towards mid-table, thanks to a 2-0 victory away
to Everton who went down to a fourth straight defeat. Both of Villa’s goals came in the
opening quarter of the game, Emily Gielnik giving Chelsea 0
them a seventeenth minute lead and Ramona Arsenal 0
Petzelberger adding the second shortly -
afterwards. Manchester City 1 (Weir 81)
Leicester City claimed their third win in Manchester Utd 0
-
four matches when beating West Ham Utd 3-0. Everton 0

Tottenham Hotspur 2 (Neville 66, Percival 85)
the second half to complete a result which takes -
