Athletic play in the Vanarama National, two steps above Yate. However this
is cup football and as the Bluebells have shown this season there is a sense
of belief among the squad, and a never say die attitude that can sustain a
determined attacking mentality right up to the final whistle; who can forget
Andy Lewis’ injury time equaliser in that exhilarating bank holiday fixture
against Merthyr! Coupled to this is the current situation at Dover who are
not having the best season. During the 2020–21 season, the team only
played 15 fixtures, with none played after 30 January 2021, due to staff
being furloughed because of the costs associated with the COVID-19
pandemic. As well as having all results in last season expunged the
National League also issued a £40,000 fine to the club and deducted them
12 points ahead of the 21/22 season. With 10 games played so far this
season Dover have only managed to secure three points and so still prop
up the National League on minus 9 points, with a minus 15 goal difference.
If there was ever a time to play ’the Whites’ this surely must be it!
C’mon you Bluebells……..

Iain
