After what has been a long delay, three of the outstanding four ties
from the Third Round Qualifying of the Vitality Women's FA Cup
were played on Sunday.
Leyton Orient came through an awkward tie away to
Eastbourne Town, booking their place in the First Round with a 4-1 victory. Hayley
Barton, Kate Bradley and Allison McCann put the O's 3-1 ahead at half time, with Kellie
Larkin replying for Eastbourne, before Egle Trezzi dashed any hopes of a recovery by the
home side with thirteen minutes remaining. Orient will be at home to Actonians Ladies in
the next round this week.
Liverpool Feds meanwhile travelled north to play Fleetwood Town Wrens of
the North West League and returned with a 3-0 victory under their belts. Erin Slade put the
Feds in front after twelve minutes and she added her second on the half hour, before Chloe
Fisher sealed the victory midway through the second half. Liverpool Feds will face opponents
from the same league in the First Round, as they are away to FC United of Manchester.
Enfield Town made it a hat-trick of away wins for National League sides against
lower league opposition with a 2-1 success at Luton Town. Erica Byron did put Luton ahead
from the penalty spot earlier on but Enfield hit back to take the win with goals either side of
half time from Beau Parker.
However Enfield must wait to discover who their next opponents will be as the tie
between Kent Football Utd and AFC Wimbledon fell victim to a waterlogged pitch, and
the match is set to be played this coming Sunday.
Keynsham Town have been very busy behind the scenes during lockdown, strengthening
their coaching staff with four new arrivals.
Steve Lilley, Aaron Tyler, Nicky Lelievre and Chris Gardener have all joined the
club and took up their new appointments with the FAWNL Southern Premier Division club
once training began after the enforced month-long break.
These are fantastic appointments with all four highly experienced UEFA licenced
coaches that will hugely benefit player development across the club.
Keynsham manager Barrie Newton said: "We have added to our coaching staff over
the past few months and I am delighted at the quality of the coaches we have attracted.
"Together, they will help develop all our players to a new level."
Aston Villa moved out of the bottom three places of the Barclays FA WSL on Wednesday
night with a crushing 4-0 victory over Bristol City at Twerton Park. The first half did see
few chances with Villa having the better of possession but the deadlock was broken three
minutes before half time, when Ramona Petzelberger slid in an Emma Follis cross at the far
post. Charlie Wellings twice went close for City after the break but Shania Hayles broke
through to score Villa’s second moments later. Petzelberger then scored a near identical goal
to her first with another far post finish, and Haynes rounded off a good night for her side by
also completing her double with an angled finish after being set up by Follis.
Also on Wednesday night, Leicester City became the second FA Women’s
Championship side to be assured of a quarter final place in the FA Women’s Continental
Tyres League Cup when they defeated Birmingham City on a penalty shootout after the
teams had fought out a goalless draw. Aimee Everett scored the winning goal from the spot
to guarantee her side top spot in Group E.
