Saltash United have enjoyed a great first season, which has seen them carry off the East
Division title in the Earthbound Electrical Cornwall Women’s League.
The team was formed in 2020 and got off to a great start, winning 5-1 against
Callington Town Res in their opening game. This wa followed by four more wins which took
them to the top of the table, comprising of two double figure victories over Charlestown and
other successes against Wadebridge Town and Foxhole Stars.
After the season had been brought to a halt, play finally resumed in mid-April and
Saltash returned to action with what they deem their two more important results of the
season, a 3-0 win in the return match away to Callington and beating local rivals Saltash
Borough 7-5 - the result which confirmed them as East Division Champions.
Saltash United are managed by Dave Hengle and Wes Westlake, with Katie Mace as
captain and the team’s top goalscorer, with 18 league goals to her name, and also vice
captain is Hayley Ranachan.
The club would like to say thank you to Darren Mace, who has volunteered his time
to run the line any chance he gets, as well as Chairman, Dave Bishop and Steve and Julie
Morley at the club who work so hard behind the scenes.
The Ashes still have one game remaining on Sunday 16th May, at home against
Saltash Borough. They have played and
won all nine games and are hoping to
make it ten and an unbeaten season!
