The Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup got
underway on Sunday with the first round of group matches
taking place.
In Group One, Cardiff Met Women got off to a good
start when they won 5-0 away to Cascade Youth Club, who
were making their debut in the competition. The Cup holders
scored twice in the opening five minutes through Nealy Martin
and Chloe O’Connor, a lead which they took into the interval.
Erin Murray made it three midway through the second half before Jodie Passmore put
them further ahead from the penalty spot and Shannon Evans netted the final goal in
injury time.
Abergavenny Women also took their good league form into the League
Cup as they defeated Briton Ferry Llansawel 2-0. Lyndsey Davies gave
Abergavenny the lead shortly before half time and Eliza Atkins sealed the result with
the second goal on the hour.
One of the two matches was played in Group Two, with the game between
Port Talbot Town and Swansea City being postponed for Covid reasons.
Cardiff City Women made the short trip to Cyncoed Ladies where they
recorded a 7-2 victory. The Bluebirds went ahead in the opening minute through
Phoebe Poole, who went on to add a second eleven minutes later. Sophie Norman put
City further in front and after Millie Jones had pulled one back for the Mighty Oaks,
Kate Jeremiah and Keisha Underdown
