Nick’s Notes. The Resies
So just one game since my last update, It was our last game of the year
at home to Long Ashton. To say this was a disappointing result would be
an understatement going down 3 nil at home to a side 3rd from bottom
in the table.
As Terry Jacks once sang “ Too much wine and too much song wondered
how we got along”. It was the day after Boxing day and our lot were
feeling the effects more so than the opposition. Saying that if T J would
of stuck his shot away in the early exchanges it may have been a different
story but he scuffed his shot to the keepers gratitude. The Long Ashton
goals were well taken but if we were more awake and sharper, they could
have and should have been prevented.
Inspired by their early lead, sad to say , Our opposition wanted it more,
winning the first and second balls, crashing into tackles. But for the
heroics of Red Clarke in goal the score line could have been worse pulling
off a string of top class saves to deny the opposition. In the second half
Ben Ogene looked impressive and was unfortunate to see his header
from a Sonny Stiddard cross go just over the bar. With Sam Thomas
coming off the bench at half tme, after a long term injury he gave the
team some shape and physical presence, encouragingly after so long out
didn’t look rusty at all. 18 year old Oscar Pearce also made his debut from
the bench and looked a class act .
Our target is promotion, so I am looking for a big improvement next
game home to Winscombe, 2pm kick off, 8th January. Don’t normally do
New Year Resolutions but for the reserves it’s to get back into their
groove, to be more nasty, to be more aggressive and to be ruthless.
Enjoy today’s game, hope we get 3 points, Happy New Year to you all.
UP THE STAGS
Regards Smarty
