League Review
It took undefeated Premier Division leaders Corsham Town less than a minute to
take the lead at Mangotsfield United on Bank Holiday Monday when Niekell
Plummer found the net. The advantage was doubled by James Rusby midway through
the first half, but on the stroke of half time Jadyn Crosbie halved their lead for Mangos.
There was no further scoring despite a ‘lively’ atmosphere at Cossham Street.
Royal Wootton Bassett Town lost the top spot they had inherited on Saturday. A
single goal from Joshua Davis gave Highworth Town all three points in the holiday
encounter and moves the Wiltshire outfit to within three points of the top.
Pershore Town remain unbeaten after a 5-1 rout of Hereford Pegasus. James
Baldwin 2, Sean Brain, Sean Cooke and Joshua Willis were on the mark for the newly-
promoted team. Cawley Cox netted a consolation goal for the home side.
A 2-0 success at Brimscombe & Thrupp takes Slimbridge into fourth spot. Goals
from Dale Evans and Rudi McKinnon kept the Swans on course.
Olly Barnes and Matt McDonald were on target for Westfields who beat Hereford
Lads Club 2-0.
Tuffley Rovers are still seeking their first win of the season following a 2-0 defeat to
local rivals Longlevens for whom Bradley Martin and Cameron Williams were the
marksmen.
Cinderford Town came out on top in the Forest of Dean derby at Lydney Town 4-2.
On target were Dan Barnard, Charlie Davies, Luke Firkin and Ethan Hayes.
On Tuesday evening, Thornbury Town played their first home fixture of the season
due to ongoing renovations to their Mundy Playing Fields ground, and recorded their
first win of the campaign, beating Roman Glass St. George 3-1. Harry Brock, Luke
Franklin and Marcus Wormwell found the net for the Thorns. Saints are left seeking a
first victory.
Robert Chester scored a brace for Wantage Town who went down by the odd goal
in five at Fairford Town.
FC Bristol enjoyed a good Bank Holiday Weekend taking maximum points from their
two outings to move up to fourth place in the First Division table. On Saturday they
ran out 3-1 winners at home to Abingdon United and on Monday they won 2-1 at
local rivals Tytherington Rocks.
Newent Town had goals from Sanchez Grange and Tyler Weir to beat Chipping
Sodbury Town 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Malmesbury Victoria head the table following a convincing 4-0 victory at bottom
team Chipping Sodbury Town on Tuesday. Clanfield 85 occupy the second
position after beating local rivals Abingdon United by the odd goal in seven at
Northcourt Road.
Two goals from Josh Bright and one from Oscar Webster gave Calne Town a 3-1 win
at Wiltshire rivals Devizes Town on Monday afternoon. Jack Baker replied for the
hosts.
Newcomers Sporting Club Inkberrow have made a good start to their first season
in the league. On Monday they drubbed Cheltenham Saracens 4-0 thanks to Bill
Coughlin, Harry Grant, Joel Steer and Louis Crook.
Lewis Reeve 2, Declan Allen-Stokes, Tom Ashworth and Owen Cox shot Long
Crendon to an emphatic 5-0 victory at Kidlington Reserves.
Gloucestershire rivals Shortwood United and Stonehouse Town fought out a 1-1
draw at Meadowbank. Dan Gayner gave Wood and early lead and Nicholas Humphreys
levelled for the vistors after the break.
