There were just three games in the Premier this weekend and a midweek win for Swansea City
saw Cardiff Met Women slip to third, albeit with a game in hand and with Cardiff City
Women dropping their first points of the season last week, the Archers would have been
hoping to pick up all three points to both take back second place but also further close the gap
to top spot. Cardiff City however took no time stamping their authority on the game with
Rhianne Oakley opening the scoring after ten minutes and getting her brace on half time,
heading home a Seren Watkins’ corner. In the second half, Danielle Broadhurst added a third
for the Bluebirds; Met weren’t down and out however, Erin Murray slotting home a penalty
after Ellie Preece was brought down in the area, but it wasn’t enough to inspire a greater
comeback and it was City who were victorious 3-1.
At the other end of the table, Barry Town Utd headed up the West Coast to
Aberystwyth Town hoping to potentially move into fourth spot, while the hosts were hoping
to build on last week’s win over fellow tailenders Abergavenny. Again the home team wasted no
time in getting the scoring started with Emily Thomas, Shauna Chambers and Rebecca Mathias
all on the scoresheet within the first twenty minutes. Ffiona Evans added a fourth, five minutes
before half time. Mackenzie Olden pulled one back for Barry, before substitute Amy Jenkins put
the match out of doubt to finish 5-1. The win sees Aberystwyth leapfrog Barry into sixth place.
There was action in mid-table, with The New Saints hosting Pontypridd Utd in the
battle for a place in the Championship league in Phase 2; Ponty in prime position on goal
difference. Last week’s hat-trick hero for TNS, Emily Ridge, got the first goal of the day after
half an hour and the first half ended 1-0. Pontypridd came out for the second half with purpose,
Alison Witts levelling and then feeding Jasmine Turner to add a second five minutes later. In a
reverse of their fortune last week, this time
it was Ponty suffering a last minute PREMIER DIVISION P W D L F A Pts GD
