National League midweek round-up
The midweek matches in the FA Women’s National League
were played in the regional Divisions One, and it turned out
to be a great couple of days for leaders Liverpool Feds in
Division One North despite them not having a game.
On Tuesday night, second placed Leeds Utd went
down to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bradford City when the
sides met at Valley Parade. A point would have taken Leeds to
the top of the table but it was Sophie Hawkins who scored the
only goal of the game for Bradford, eight minutes before half
time, to give them their second win of the season. On the same
night, Bianca Owens netted twice along with Shannon Reed
and Sacha Millward as Norton & Stockton Ancients ran
out 4-1 winners away to Chester-le-Street Town, whose
consolation came from Brogan Prudhoe.
FC United of Manchester then had the chance to go
top the following night but lost 3-0 to Stockport County,
for whom Jess Battle scored twice and Emma Bradshaw Tilly Fantom of Doncaster Rovers Belles is
added the other. Durham Cestria meanwhile defeated challenged by Long Eaton Utd’s
Alnwick Town 5-1, thanks to a Grace Ayre double, Erin Tiana Hicks (Will Cheshire).
Nelson, Jennifer Knowles and Kirsten Donald, with Michelle
Stewart replying.
Lincoln City have gone to the top of Division One Midlands following an eight–goal blast
away to Peterborough Utd. Jessica Rousseau hit a hat-trick for the Lady Imps, with Toni
McHamilton (2), Leah Hardy, Amy Blinkhorn and Sophie Crosby also getting on the scoresheet.
Long Eaton Utd are second after they drew 1-1 with Doncaster Rovers Belles. Jasmine Saxton
was on target for the Belles, with Long Eaton scoring through Tiana Hicks. Leafield Athletic
meanwhile moved up into the top six with a 2-1 victory away to Solihull Moors, courtesy of Katie
Johnson and an own goal, Kathryn Pagan replying for the home side. Katie Lowder scored twice
along with Natalie Hurst and Chantelle Robinson as Holwell Sports defeated Bedworth Utd
4-0. Gurjit Dulay scored for Sporting Khalsa as they battled out a 1-1 draw with Wem Town,
whose goal came from Katie Doster.
Hashtag Utd moved to the top of Division One South East, thanks to a 5-2 victory over
London Seaward. Kelly Wealthall netted twice along with Cerys Adams. Gemma Baker and
Malika Apindia Gille, whilst Seaward replied through Michelle Young and Abbey Dell. AFC
Wimbledon moved up to third as they also won 5-2 against Queen’s Park Rangers, Ashlee
Hincks keeping up her good form by scoring a hat-trick, Rebecca Carter and Gloria Siber adding the
others and Rangers’ goals coming from Emilia Parsons and Ellie Searle. Cambridge Utd emerged
as 2-1 winners from their local derby match with Cambridge City and leapfrog them in the table
as a result. Emma Jenkins and Gisela Otteri scored the goals for United, whilst City’s reply came
from Grace Stanley. Stevenage Women meanwhile picked up their second league win of the
season, Nicole Emmings and Lucy Webster both scoring to hand them a 2-0 success away to
Harlow Town.
Cheltenham Town came from behind to win 2-1 against Portishead Town and go three
points ahead at the top of Division One South West. Rosie Hill gave Portishead the lead during the
first half but after the break, Abby Bevan and Amy Wathan scored to give Cheltenham three
valuable points and end Portishead’s five-match unbeaten run. AFC Bournemouth meanwhile
lifted themselves into the top three by scoring six times without reply at Poole Town. Becki Bath
was on target twice for the Cherries along with Katie James, Molly Clark, Abby Jones and Helen
Corbin. Larkhall Athletic meanwhile ended a run of four straight defeats by beating Swindon
Town 3-2 in a see saw match at Plain Ham. Kate German gave the Larks a first half lead but two
goals in quick succession after the break from Tori Taylor and Annabelle Colston turned the match
in Swindon’s favour. The Wiltshire side remained in front until a lengthy period of injury time,
which saw Rhian Robbins score two well taken goals to hand Larkhall an unlikely victory.
