Match Report
BITTON 1 v ASHTON & BACKWELL Utd 2
Stags leave it late AGAIN
If the truth be known we don’t really know who, perhaps we don’t really
care but someone got On the end of a cross in the 96th minute, the ball
is bundled in the back of Bitton’s net, Ashton & Backwell go 2-1 up, 20
seconds later the referee blows the final whistle. It appears that
someone was skipper Conner Saunders, certainly his performances over
the last two games warrants being awarded such an important goal at
an early stage of the season.
Bitton started the brighter, Thayer forcing Coomber into a low diving
save. Prompted by the Saunders brothers, the visitors took control,
Oscar Pearce headed wide from a corner. The hosts broke from an A& B
corner, Howe saw his shot hit the post, Backwell broke even quicker
from the rebound, to take the lead. Jamie played into Miles, who turned
onto his left foot and from 25 yards his fierce drive flew into the top left
hand corner giving Dunk no chance in the home goal.
That lead lasted 10 minutes, Bitton built from the back through
impressive left back Jordan Williams who found no9 Jess Howe, he
turned sharply, his left foot drive from 18 yards found the bottom corner
and gave Lewis no chance to save.
As everyone was just thinking about the break, a moment of magic from
Wil Solari opened up the Bitton defence to play in Joe Cattamole who
agonisingly saw his shot drift just wide of the post with the keeper
beaten. H/T 1-1
The second 45 followed the pattern of the 1st half, the hosts were much
sharper in attack at the beginning of the half, enjoying success on their
left hand side as both Monelle and Williams went close and Hitchings
saw his header hit the woodwork.
With 3 changes made by the visitors on the hour mark, Backwell upped
the tempo, Wil went close with the outside of his left foot, Charlie
headed wide from a free kick. Another substitute, Elliot Moore saw his
left foot drive go just wide and Alfie Cummings hit the side netting when
very well placed. During this attack unfortunately Bitton’s centre half
Jamie Turner had to be stretchered off with a knee injury.
It was during this injury time that Saunders bundled the ball into the
back of the net to give the Stags 3 points, making that 7 in a week.
