The Genero Adran League got under way on Sunday with a record breaking 1,426 fans in
attendance at the Swansea.com stadium for the first ever Swansea Ladies match at the stadium.
Just two days before the Wales women's team broke their own attendance record in Cardiff,
it was the Genero Adran Premier’s turn on Sunday to play in front of the highest ever crowd for a
domestic match, which was also covered live on S4C and their digital channels.
Champions Swansea City played hosts to last season’s runners-up and Genero Adran
Trophy winners, Cardiff Met Women. The Archers thought they had opened the scoring in the
first half, but captain Steph Turner’s goal was ruled offside. Instead it was the Swans who went
ahead in the 41st minute with Katy Hosford slotting home, Stacey John-Davis then doubled their
lead early in the second half and this sealed the three points.
The first goal in the league was scored by Libby Isaac who put Aberystwyth Town in the
lead after just three minutes against promoted side Abergavenny Women. The Seasiders added
a second just over ten minutes before the end of the game, with Rebecca Mathias getting on the
scoresheet; Abergavenny’s Lisa Bird replied instantly to make it 2-1 but this turned out to be a
       consolation for her side.
At Cardiff International Stadium, Cardiff City Women faced Pontypridd Utd in their
first match under manager James Fishlock, who is in charge while Fern Burrage-Male is on
maternity leave. The Bluebirds were keen to put a marker down for the season and goals from
Danielle Broadhurst and Pheobie Poole confirmed a 2-0 win.
Last season’s two newcomers faced off with Barry Town Utd heading north to The New
Saints. The hosts went ahead through Lucie Platt in the eleventh minute, but five minutes before
half time Emily Nicholson levelled the scores. TNS could have retaken the lead when they were
awarded a penalty just three minutes after the break, but this was missed and Barry’s Mackenzie
Olden added two during injury time to not only win the game, but also see her side end the day on
top of the table on goal scored.
