ASHTON & BACKWELL UNITED F.C.
Tom Anthony, Defender/midfield - signed last season from Cribbs in the Hellenic
League, made his debut away to Helston. Equally home at in defence or midfield, pacey
and comfortable on the ball. Has a big future in the game.
nd
Oscar Pearce, Defender - Beech’s 2 signing and made his debut in the FA Vase
win@ Brislington, at right back Then went to university. Returned in April to feature in
a very young midfield @ 3 placed Mousehole. Can also play centre half. Played for
rd
Weston Super mare U18s, another young man with a good future in the game.
Charlie Saunders, Anywhere - Signed from Bath City in 2018 & brother of 1 team
st
captain Connor. Modern day footballer, quick, very good on the ball and is a very good
ball carrier. Char is very versatile being able to play at anywhere across the back, in
midfield or upfront. Player’s player of the year 2021/22.
Alfie Cummings, Midfield/Winger – Beech’s 1 signing in 2022, a great impact in
st
the 2 half of the season for such a young man, only 17 years of age. Ex-Bristol Rovers
nd
schoolboy, very good on the ball, a player who has bags of potential and a great
attitude. Plays for Bristol manor Farm U18s and St. Brendan’s College side.
Joe Cattermole, Midfield - new signing this summer from Mangotsfield utd playing
in the Southern League. Where I saw him play with Sam (Thomas), we nearly got him
last season, but it was a few days after the deadline. Already well known to Beech who
moved quickly to get Joe on board, he will add quality to our midfield and enjoys
playing in Beech’s passing style.
Sam Price, Midfield – Former member of our U’18s. Been with the Stags for 5 years,
joining from Ashton Utd. Promoted from the Reserves last season, tireless midfielder
with a great work ethic providing an engine in the middle of the park, capped his first
st
1 Team goal with a screamer in the FA Vase at Brislington. Went onto score some vital
goals last season and possibly the most improved player of the season.
Connor Saunders, Midfield – 1 Team Captain of the squad starting his 7 year at
st
th
the club after signing from Wells City. The only player that seems to have his life in
order, strong in the tackle, does a lot of the dirty work other don’t want to do and leads
by example. Tries to look after his brother Charlie! Recently became a Dad, AGAIN,
congratulations
James White, Midfield - Talented and technical ball player, he joined us aged 17 in
2018, made 65 appearances, scoring 6 goals in, 2 out of 3 covid hit seasons. Having
secured a place in the summer at Gloucester University, Jamie reluctantly moved to
Hellenic league Hallen but has saw the light and returned to the Lancer Scott. No
longer the baby of the squad!
Harry Walker, Midfield - signed from Frome Town all the way back in 2015, ex-
Bristol City youth who has represented England Schools. Can play anywhere on the left-
hand side also in central midfield, possesses great quality on the ball and dead ball
delivery is spot on. Missed all of 2021/22, recovering from a broken ankle. Back pre-
season training and featuring in the friendlies, will be like a new signing.
