CHIPPING SODBURY
PROMOTION-WINNING CRICKETERS
Chipping Sodbury's promotion-winning cricketers are braving the cold tonight to
support one of their own - new Yate Town manager John Rendell. 'Ron' has gone
into the cricket club's history books as one of their finest wicketkeeping/batters
since being formed some 160-plus years ago. And Sodbury's cricketers are out in
force tonight to give their backing to Ron and his Bluebells squad for the big local
derby against Weston-super-Mare. It's been quite a year for Chipping Sodbury CC
who won promotion from the Gloucestershire County League back to WEPL - the
region's premier league competition. The club are once again looking to the future
with plenty of hope. Sodbury run four Saturday sides and a development XI on a
Sunday along with a full complement of youth sides catering for all ages and
genders. In short, if you're looking for a game of cricket - whatever your age or
ability - there's a place for you at Sodbury. The club's net facilities at The Ridings
have recently been overhauled while important renovation work on the two squares
has also been completed. Winter nets will soon be starting, for details visit the club

Midweek League Review
The weather caused a number of postponements last midweek, however matches
were still played across the two Premier Divisions.
On Monday evening in Premier Central, Barwell defeated St Ives Town 3-1 after
going into a 2-0 lead at half time, before the visitors came back with a goal four
minutes into the second half. The third Barwell goal being scored in the 84th
minute. Hitchin Town and Coalville Town shared the points in a 2-2 draw and
Rushall Olympic came away from Kings Langley with a 1-0 win, with the winner
being scored three minutes into added time at the end of the second half.
On Tuesday evening in Premier South, Yate Town travelled to Bracknell Town, last
Monday's FA Cup hosts of Ipswich Town, and came away with a 3-0 victory with
two first half goals and a third after 69 minutes. In the other match Hendon, at
home, and Merthyr Town fought out a 1-1 draw with goals in each half. Those
results saw Yate Town leapfrog Hendon near the foot of the table.
All other scheduled matches were postponed due to the weather.
