Good evening and a very warm welcome to everyone, including the players,
management, directors, and supporters of Truro City, who tonight make the
journey north from Cornwall. We hope you enjoy your visit here and wish you a
safe trip home.
Consecutive away days have seen Yate Town earn mixed results in league and cup.
th
This season’s FA Cup campaign began on September 4 down in Dorset, where the
Bluebells travelled to face Dorchester Town. Two goals in five minutes from striker
Olly Mehew put Yate in a commanding position before Dorchester made it a nervy
second half with a goal on the stroke of half time. However, Paul Michael’s side held
firm before Dave Sims-Burgess, creator of Mehew’s second goal, added his name
to the scoresheet when the Dorchester keeper couldn’t hold on to a James Harding
shot and he followed up well to put the game to bed and ensure Yate’s name
entered the hat for the Second Qualifying Round.
The draw paired the Bluebells with Gosport Borough at home, and both sides would
get a chance to size each other up in the league beforehand. Yate travelled to
Hampshire with a 100% away record in all competitions so far and made the
perfect start when Mehew continued his goal run and slotted into the bottom
corner seven minutes in to stun the hosts.
However, the in-form Boro did not stay stunned for long, and equalised on 21
minutes to go into the break level. Eleven minutes from time Yate hearts were
broken as the in-form Nicky Dembele finished to earn Gosport the three points and
end the Bluebells’ perfect start on the road. That result leaves Town 11 after six
th
games with eight points, whilst Boro stay within three points of top of the league
Hayes & Yeading.
Yate Town have also welcomed four new faces to the South West Interiors Stadium
this week, three of whom arrive on loan deals from Bristol Rovers. Tyron
Mbuenimo, Jamie Egan and Owen Brain have all joined on an initial one-month loan
deal from the Pirates. Mbuenimo is a former Tottenham Hotspur youth player and
right-back, Brain is an attacking midfielder who can also deliver set pieces, and
Egan is a centre-back who joined Bristol Rovers from Cabinteely in Dublin last year,
and has also played for Wales at U16 & U17 level.
The fourth signing sees a return for Max Williams, a central midfielder who briefly
played at Lodge Road last year. The former Bristol City scholar completes the
bolstering of the squad ahead of a busy September schedule – a hugely warm
welcome to all our new players.
Today’s opponents have been playing their home games in Plymouth this season
whilst the upcoming Stadium for Cornwall is built, which they will share with rugby
union’s Cornish Pirates upon completion. It has been a slow start for the White
Tigers, with five points from their six games so far seeing them occupy 19 place
th
in the league ahead of tonight’s matchup.
