       No English football club has the letter J in its name

       Before Sir Alex Ferguson took over at Manchester United in 1986, Aston Villa
       were more successful.

       Pele was the first person to call football “the beautiful game.”

       From the beginning of the 1893-1894 season a rule was introduced that a player
       could not move from the club he was registered with to another club without his
       club’s permission. Even if the player’s registration had expired they could keep
       him tied down to them indefinitely. They did not need to pay him wages and nor
       did they have to play him. He could not play until they let him leave. As time
       went on, however, club’s realised they could get compensation from other clubs
       for releasing players to them and hence the player transfer system was born.

       Goodison Park, where Everton used to play, was the first purpose built stadium
       in England. It was opened on the 24th August 1892, almost exactly 129 years
       ago.

       The weight of a regulation size football was set at 14 – 16 ounces in 1872


       Harry Redknapp once asked a fan to play for West Ham in a pre-season friendly.
       Fed up with a West Hammer fan, Steve Davies, moaning about Lee Chapman
       during the friendly match against Oxford City in 1994, Harry told the fan to get
       changed as he was going on the pitch instead. Davies actually scored.

       One of Bobby Moore’s middle names was Chelsea – Robert Frederick Chelsea
       Moore

       AC Milan was founded as Milan Foot-ball and Cricket Club. In 1899 a Nottingham
       native, Herbert Kilpin set up the club after moving to Italy a few years earlier.
       He lead the team to its first three titles. He died in 1916.
