Chelsea head the Barclays FA WSL table at the start of the international break,
keeping hold of top spot after scoring six times without reply past Birmingham
City. It has not been a good week for the Blues and they found themselves two
down at the break, Sam Kerr scoring both before the Australian went on to
complete her hat-trick three minutes after the restart. Fran Kirby got in on the
act on the hour and after Guro Reiten made it five, Kirby
rounded off the scoring with her second in injury time.
Manchester City kept the gap at two points by
winning 3-0 away to Tottenham Hotspur. The
Cityzens took a fifth minute lead via a Rebecca Spencer
own goal and Janine Beckie made it two ahead of half
time. Caroline Weir wrapped up the win with the third
goal just after the hour.
Arsenal’s quest for a Champions League place
received a boost with a 4-0 success away to Bristol City.
Vivianne Miedema put the Gunners ahead with four
minutes on the clock and Danielle van de Donk added a
second straight after the break. Beth Mead made it three
and Miedema netted the final goal, meaning she has now
scored 15 times in six appearances against the Robins.
In contrast, Manchester Utd were dealt a blow
to their top three hopes as they were beaten 1-0 by
Brighton & Hove Albion. Inness Kaagman, who is Leonie Maier in possession for Arsenal, chased
