League Review
The Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South fixture list
today suffered with six postponements and a game abandoned.
However, despite having the afternoon off, leaders Weston-super-Mare
received a boost when they heard the news of second-placed Truro City’s
3-2 defeat at Holloways Park against mid-table Beaconsfield Town.
Nathan Minhas gave the Rams a 27th minute lead they held until 10
minutes after the break when Rocky Neal equalised.
Dan Sullivan then gave the White Tigers a 73rd minute lead, only for the
hosts to battle straight back and level through Elliott Buchanan within 3
minutes. With 8 minutes remaining, Sam Togwell grabbed Beaconsfield’s
winner.
Chesham United were the only other top five team to play as they
welcomed bottom side Yate Town to The Meadow and inflicted a
damaging 5-1 defeat on the Bluebells, who are 9 points adrift of the safety
mark with only 12 left to play for. A crowd of 430 saw the visitors take a
23rd minute lead through Lucas Tomlinson. Toby Braney pulled the
Generals back on terms right on the stroke of half-time. And then the hosts
ran away with it in the second half, making it 2-1 just 2 minutes after the
restart through Zak Joseph, who also added the fifth in the 88th minute,
sandwiched by goals from Brad Clayton after 53 minutes and Shaq
Hippolyte-Patrick after 63 minutes.
Gosport Borough’s relegation clash against fifth-from-bottom Hendon
will have to be replayed at the AEI Stadium as today’s game was
abandoned after 65 minutes following an injury to the linesman ending play
early with the scores level.
A crowd of 724 at the Met Coaches Community Stadium saw Merthyr
Town beat Hanwell Town 3-1. Tom Handley gave the Martyrs a 19th
minute lead that Abdul Seidu-Osman cancelled out 5 minutes later.
However, only 3 minutes after that, Lewis Powell converted a penalty to
restore the home side’s lead. And there was a fourth goal in 10 minutes as
Ricardo Rees made it 3-1 to Paul Michael’s side just shy of the half-hour
mark.
The only other game to go ahead was the derby at the Raymond McEnhill
Stadium between Salisbury and Dorchester Town which ended honours
even.
A crowd of 584 saw Shaq Gwengwe put the visitors in front after 31
minutes.
