Bris v Wells City

easy ride in the Foxes goal. Harry Horton having wells best effort shoo ng high over the
bar from the edge of the 18 yard box a er a corner from the Wells right wasn’t cleared by
       the Foxes.
Half Time: Wells 0 Brislington 1
The second half saw the roles reversed, with a resurgent home side not willing to let their
seasons work just fizzle out without a fight. Playing with a confidence that wasn’t apparent
in the first 45, the home side were playing the territory well and the Brislington defence
looked less assured under the pressure. A series of corners and long throws into the box
tes ng the away sides resolve. On 53 minutes Dorrington was called into ac on making his
first save of the game managing to get behind a tame header from Warwick. Wells were
star ng to win most of the second balls and the visitors were finding it hard to get out of
there own half. At this point they were relying on last ditch tackles and important blocks to
keep the hosts at bay, the direct approach was offering the home side and considerable
crowd some hope. On 65 minutes Doddimead was replaced by Jordan Williams and five
minutes later Me ers made way for Joel Smith as Perks looked to steady the ship. The
changes seemed to have the desired effect with Williams showing his class on the le and
Smith adding a comba ve edge to the middle of the park, Brislington regaining the upper
hand. Barwood who had been excellent throughout was making every header and the the
nervy clearances were becoming more assured. Wells were s ll pressing but the Foxes
again began to create chances as the game became stretched Ricke s again seeing an
       effort go just wide.
Griffiths was replaced by Egan on 80 minutes, and a minute later a well worked move
ended with a rasping effort by Joel Smith pped over by Creed. Wells were now
commi ng bodies forward in a last ditch effort to get something from the game, but on 89
minutes an errant pass by Russel was intercepted by Egan who’s brilliant pass put
McLennan behind the back line and through on goal
S ll with a lot to do McLennan rounded the keeper and pulled the ball back across the
retrea ng defender hi ng the side ne ng just inside the far post for his, and Brislingtons
second, sparking jubilant celebra ons from the away bench, McLennan mobbed by his
team mates including goalkeeper Dorrington who ran 80yards to join in. Wells 0-2
       Brislington and contest over!!
However Brislington and McLennan were not content with two, and three minutes later
McLennan raced off down the right a er a white clearance, and with two defenders in
pursuit turned inside to beat Mead who got a toe on the ball to slow the wide man down.
McLennan turned to retrieve the ball then sharply turned again towards the by line only to
be felled by a clumsy challenge from Wells skipper Tom Hill who conceded a Penalty in the
       process
McLennan stepped up to take the spot kick which was ini ally saved well to his right by
Creed, however McLennan followed up to li the rebound over the keeper for his hat trick.
       Wells 0-3 Brislington
30 seconds later the game was done, topping off a stunning fortnight for the Foxes, bea ng
nearest rivals Nailsea & Tickenham, and Wells as well as Longwell Green, also qualifying for
the Semi-finals of the Les Philips Cup with a victory over Keynsham Town.
Another statement well and truly made and a massive step toward the league tle by
extending their lead at the top to eight points with a game in hand, and con nuing their
remarkable unbeaten run which stands at 22, and dates back to the end of October.
