The Scottish Women’s Premier League title race will go down to the last day of the season and
Glasgow City will be in pole position and one point away from yet another Championship.
City brought themselves to the brink of being crowned Champions by winning 6-2 away to
Spartans in the final match of the penultimate round of fixtures. City were out of the blocks very
quickly and took a third minute lead through Ode Fulutudilu, with Hayley Lauder sweeping in
the second on the quarter hour. Niamh Farrelly and Priscilla Chinchilla then added further goals
to leave their side four goals ahead at the break. Katie Reilly reduced the arrears for Spartans
during the second half, scoring via a header with her first touch of the ball after coming on as a
substitute, but City reacted quickly with Aoife Colvill restoring the four-goal advantage just two
minutes later. Spartans continued to fight and, moments after having hit the post, Rebecca
Galbraith scored a second goal for the Edinburgh side, but City were to have the final say and
Sharon Wojcik rounded off the scoring late on.
The win actually returned Glasgow City to the top of the table after they had momentarily
been dislodged by Celtic, who had scored ten times without reply against Forfar Farmington.
Celtic are clearly not giving up the fight and Sarah Ewens, who has been in superb form for the
Hoops in recent weeks, gave them the lead through a well taken goal after four minutes. An
unfortunate own goal by Alana Bruce doubled Celtic’s lead and they went on to add further goals
ahead of half time from Chloe Craig, Mariah Lee and Anna Filbey. With goal difference still a
possible factor before the end of the season, Celtic continued to push for further goals during the
second half with Ewens and Lee both scoring their second, before Craig completed her own
double from the penalty spot. Filbey then became a fourth player to find the net for a second time
and with five minutes remaining, Ewens headed in her hat-trick goal and a tenth on the day for
Celtic.
Rangers can on longer win the league but still have a hope of a Champions League spot
as they defeated Motherwell 6-0. Nicola Docherty’s cross-cum-
shot gave them an early lead, with Kirsten
