WELCOME
so it was inevitable that he opened the scoring with an assist from Dennis Digie. However
two goals from the visitors wide-man Prince Nimoy soon had the visitors in front. On
fourteen minutes he found space on the right before firing into the far corner with an
impressive strike. Twelve minutes later, after switching wings, he obliged again with another
sweet strike. The Bluebells quickly raised their game and Prince Henry and Alex Lambert
both had efforts saved as we fought back. The equaliser finally came just before the break
when Prince Henry's ground shot from the left was blocked only for Alex Lambert to react
quickly and get the loose ball over the line. After the break the Bluebells regained the lead
just past the hour mark after more good approach play. Joe Tumlety picked out Ollie Mehew
as he ran in from the left and went on to place the ball wide of Studley. The lead was doubled
fifteen minutes later, substitute Zak Drew sent a cross in from the right and Prince Henry
was on hand to slot the ball in at the near post. The result was looking secure until the
visitors pulled a goal back in the last ten minutes which resulted in a nervy end to an exciting
cup tie (for the neutral).

Surprisingly, or not, the regionalisation of the FA Cup qualifying rounds had us drawn out of
the hat to face Tivvy, although the balls could not have known we were scheduled to face
each other three days beforehand in League action. On Wednesday evening it was an
exciting game but ultimately defeat and conceding four goals again. We did create chances
early on and both Brandon Smalley and Olly Mehew had chances before Tivvy scored from
a set piece with Jamie Richards opened the scoring on 8 minutes with a powerful header.
Chances were shared for the rest of the half although the hosts wide players looked
threatening every time they went forward, especially No 10 Niall Thompson who was also
awarded a well deserved man of the match. As it was the Bluebells drew level just before
half time when Olly Mehew, who had a busy evening, sent in a dangerous cross which ended
in an OG, although Toby Raison is being listed as the scorer. The hosts did restore their lead
8 minutes after the break when Yate failed to clear a corner and Jordan Lam fired home.
Then on 78 minutes, Matty Buchan’s shot was parried by Yate keeper Martin Horsell and Niall
Thompson was on hand to poke home the rebound to make it 3-1. In the first minute of
stoppage time, Zach Drew’s threat on the right flank was eventually rewarded with a well
taken goal. As Yate pressed players forward to get the equaliser Tivvy rallied and Dylan
Jones was on the end of a counter attack to make sure with Tiverton’s fourth in the 4th
minute of added time.
We can take some solace from history. Last time we met Tivvy in a cup competition it was
the FA Trophy in 2019. The first tie ended 3-3, the replay also ended 3-3 after extra time
and the game had to go to penalties which we won, although neither side deserved to go
out that way after such an entertaining tie. In the league meeting prior to the Trophy Yate
won 2-0 at Tiverton, read into that what you will these are two completely different sets of
players from 2019 and your support for both teams as ever is welcome.
C’mon you #Bluebells………….
Regards,
Iain
