Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the South West Interiors stadium
for this Southern League Premier Division South match versus Kings
Langley. We last saw the Bluebells run out here and there have been five
matches played away from home since then so it is good to be back home.
Following the home defeat to Swindon Supermarine we managed three
straight victories scoring 10 goals, conceding none and grabbing the Senior
Challenge Cup in the process. Since then we have faced the tough
challenges of visiting the homes of the top two teams in the division as they
press for automatic promotion. A single goal was all that separated the
teams at Hayes & Yeading until the last few minutes when the hosts were
able to capitalise as Yate Town committed players forward in search of the
equaliser. At Taunton it was Joe Guest who opened the scoring for the hosts
and they doubled their lead early in the second half, however a well worked
goal bravely headed home by James Harding brought the Bluebells back
into the game and for the last period the ten men of Yate forced the
Peacocks into some last ditch defending to hold on to the three points.
With only three games left of the season we can now start looking towards
events over the summer and pulling together the pre-season schedule of
matches. First up is the Good Times on the Pitch series of events running
between the 26th and 29th of May. Details are available on line and later in
this programme but there is plenty of variety on offer to entertain the
family. We are looking for car parking stewards so if you are interested
please get in touch via yatetownfootballclub@outlook.com or https://
twitter.com/YateTownFC . After that we entertain the Manchester United
Legends on Sunday 24th July 2022 (see further details later in the
programme). Pre-season fixtures will begin in July and discussions are
ongoing to pull together a blend of opposition from EFL to step 5 opposition
ready to start the new season on Saturday 6th August 2022.
Sadly as posted on our social media Roger Berry who was one of our long
standing Directors recently passed away after a long battle with illness.
Terry Tansley has written a fitting tribute to Roger which I encourage you
all to read. We must also recognise the generosity of another of our long
time supporters. Yate Town Football Club is very grateful to Sue Davies,
who recently purchased a defibrilator for the Club. Sue purchased this in
memory of her husband Bryan Davies, who died on Boxing Day 2020.
Bryan, who was a Man Utd season ticket holder, had been a Sunday
lunchtime regular in the Club for many years, particularly enjoying his
weekly game of dominoes. We are very appreciative of Sue's generous
gesture, and the defib will be a fitting reminder of Bryan.
And so to our visitors this afternoon we last played ‘the Kings’ at the other
end of the season on 28th August when a Ricardo Rees strike was the only
difference between the two clubs. Kings Langley currently sit having only
