won three times in their last twelve outings with three draws and six
defeats. However as we know with football results do not necessarily reflect
performances and most recently the Kings held Truro and Gosport to 0-0
draws losing narrowly to Dorchester and Swindon Supermarine 2-1. They
are clearly difficult to score against and this promises to be a close and
exciting game.
ROGER BERRY
The Club was very saddened to learn of the death of Director Roger Berry,
who died on 6th April aged 78.
Roger was a native of Sherston where he played most sports, being
particularly adept at cricket, representing the village team for several years
as a batsman more known for his obdurate defence than attacking stroke
play.
Roger joined Redcliffe Inks as a laboratory assistant in 1962, and his strong
work ethic saw him gradually work his way up to Managing Director with
Sun Chemical Ltd, Flexible Packaging Division in the UK when he retired in
2008.
Roger had been a supporter of the Club since the mid '60's, being one of
the original 500 Club members, and was also one of the original members
of our Social Club when we started at Lodge Road. He was asked to become
a Director when we became a Limited Company in 2011, and his abilities
and business acumen helped us continue to make progress on and off the
field.
Roger enjoyed a varied social life, particularly appreciating fine wining and
dining, Horse Racing and playing cards. He remained a great cricket fan,
and enjoyed his annual three day visits to Test Matches with friends from
the Club.
He had not enjoyed the best of health for several years, and these health
problems led him to shielding throughout the pandemic. Despite these
health issues, his sudden death came as a great shock to everyone.
Roger is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Johanne and three
grandchildren, and the Club sends our deepest condolences to his family.
Yate Town Football Club is very grateful to Sue Davies, who recently
purchased a defibrilator for the Club. Sue purchased this in memory of her
husband Bryan Davies, who died on Boxing Day 2020. Bryan, who was a
Man Utd season ticket holder, had been a Sunday lunchtime regular in the
Club for many years, particularly enjoying his weekly game of dominoes.
We are very appreciative of Sue's generous gesture, and the defib will be a
fitting reminder of Bryan.
