Match Report
ASHTON & BACKWELL Utd. 4 Bridport F.C. 0
The proverbial six pointer seemed a little bit early in the first weekend of
October but 2nd from bottom Ashton Backwell entertained bottom of the
table Bridport with the hosts looking to avenge their 3-2 defeat in August
which gave Bridport their only points of the season so far.
Backwell were very quickly out of the blocks forcing the visitor’s keeper
to save at the feet of Connor Hartley in the 1 minute. Then 3 minutes
st
later Hartley provided a low cross from the right wing and Jonathan
Inverizzi was 1st to react in the 6 yard box to slot home to give his side
an early lead and his 1 goal for the club. Goal bound Shots from Sam
st
Thomas and Hartley both deflected for corners by Bridport defenders.
Despite a 1-0 lead at the break, A & B faced stern words from new
manager Tony Beecham, as they clearly failed to reach the levels shown
in the previous weeks’ FA vase victory over Brislington.
For the first 10 minutes Backwell pressurised the visitors defence but a
quick break from Beggs set up Finley Jarvis whose near post drive was
well saved by Coombes. The hosts responded with Hartley forcing a good

save from Bridport keeper, who then made another good diving save from
a Joe Bishop header.
The STAGS were now in the ascendancy and in the 59th minute another
right-wing cross from Hartley found 17-year-old Alfie Cummins unmarked
5 yards out and the 17-year-old calmly slotted home his first goal in only
a second start for the club. A minute later Cummins became provider with
his right-wing cross finding Bradley Skidmore unmarked who slotted
home for his fourth goal of the season to make the lead 3-0.
In the 67th minute following a good Coombes save from Beggs, Joe
Bishop smashed the rebound straight into his fellow centre half Tom Press
but unfortunately the referee decided Press it handled the ball to give the
visitors a penalty. Centre half Hastings stepped up but blasted well wide
and couldn’t get his side back into the game. 5 minutes later Hartley
cleverly played in substitute Mason Hardidge who low drive from 15 yards
made the lead 4-0 . The hosts continue to attack as Hartley went close,
Hardidge hit the crossbar with a glorious 20 yard drive and Charlie
Saunders forced another good save. Full time 4-0
Coombes, Jordan Bishop, Joe Bishop, Press, Sollers, Thomas, Price,
