Holders Manchester City made it two wins out of two with a 3-0
victory over Sunderland on Sunday.
Julie Blakstad got City off to a great start by giving them an
eighth minute lead and they went on to crown the win after the break
with further goals from Hayley Raso and Khadija Shaw.
City sit in second place in Group B right now behind
Liverpool, who claimed a third straight win when Jaz Matthews
scored the only goal of the game against Blackburn Rovers on the
stroke of half time.
Up until last weekend, every match in Group A had been drawn but Aston Villa have
replaced Durham Women as leaders after winning their meeting 1-0, thanks to a Rachel
Daly goal fifteen minutes from time. Everton meanwhile ran out 3-0 winners away to
Sheffield Utd, courtesy of second half strikes from Katja Snoeijs, Hanna Bennison and Jess
Park, and they move into second place.
Kate Longhurst and Dagny Brynjarsdottir, from the penalty spot, were on the scoresheet
as West Ham Utd went top of Group C after beating Birmingham City 2-0. The
Hammers lead the way by two points from Brighton & Hove Albion who were 2-1 winners
away to London City Lionesses. Elisabeth Terland and Victoria Williams were on target
for the Seagulls, with Karin Muya replying.
There was also a change of leadership in Group D with Lewes taking over following
their 4-1 victory at Crystal Palace. All of the Rookettes’ goals came in the first half, Emma
Thompson netting twice inside the opening twenty minutes along with a Kirsten Reilly own
goal and Emily Kraft, before Molly-Mae Sharpe grabbed a late consolation for Palace. Kiera
Skeels meanwhile was the heroine for Charlton Athletic as they beat Bristol City 2-1,
with a goal in each half against the team she played for in the Final two seasons ago, Abi
Harrison replying in injury time.
