Welcome to the Lancer Scott Stadum
Good afternoon and welcome to the Lancer Scott
stadium, particularly to the officials, players and
supporters of Millbrook FC, who made the journey
up from Cornwall. We made the journey south to
Millbrook a month ago, where we received a very
hospitable welcome. Millbrook deserved their 1st
half 1 goal lead. We upped our game, Shea got
our equaliser, deserved a share of the spoils but
conceded deep in injury time to give the hosts the
3 points. Perhaps best remembered for the
initiation songs in their clubhouse and a night out
for many in Plymouth.
Last home game v Clevedon Town, watched by a
good crowd of 164, was the Alan Holley Memorial
Day, where we raised £452 for Alan’s chosen
charity Cancer Research. Alan’s son Kye Holly (X-
Clevedon Town, Manor Farm, Bishop Sutton)
made the man of the match award to our keeper, Coomber. A good win last
week at Sherborne, with a debut from Jack Fillingham and a return to the club
by Zach Ford has helped to improve the squad. I will quickly move on from the
disappointment of 2 cup defeats at the hands of Division 1 sides which were
very winnable.
Last week sadly 5 of us, led by Phil Rex, attended the funeral of our treasurer
and committee member, Jonathan Rogers at Hanham Baptist church. We
learned a lot about Jonathan outside of the football club, we will truly miss him.
Today we will be wearing our new kit, our own design, which finally arrived
from Karuta sports (the manufacturer). this year‘s kit has been very generously
sponsored by Acorn Surfacing ltd, owned by a good friend of mine, Kev
Greenwood.
Bad news a couple of weeks ago long serving winger Cordell Young broke his
leg in 2 places playing for the Reserves here at the Lancer Scott, V Nailsea &
Tickenham. It was a complete accident. SO, a date for your diaries, Wednesday
23rd November. The re-arranged fixture v Nailsea & Tickenham, kick off 7.30
under lights. We WILL BE CHARGING admission, ALL money raised including
player’s subs, Raffle will go to Cordell to help him while he is off work.
We are home again this coming Saturday against Somerset rivals Shepton
Mallet, K.O. 3pm. We then hit the road for trips to Falmouth and then
Mousehole. We are running coaches to both, please contact me if you wish to
join us. More details on Beech’s page.
Thank you for your support today, enjoy the game and please respect the
officials.
UP THE STAGS,
Mike, Chairman
