After all of that it is probably worth
talking about some football. With
regards to the squad Tuesday’s FA
cup tie proved costly. Sims-Burgess went down following a heavy challenge from the
Bristol Manor Farm goalkeeper mid-way through the second half. The shoulder was
dislocated, and then went back into place. The shoulder and surrounding area is
very swollen and mobility of the arm is minimal, so we all wish Simmo a speedy
recovery. Nick Peare also came off towards the end of the second half. Des was
carrying a niggle before the game but injured his hamstring and was unable to
continue. He will be further assessed but no definite news on when he will return.
Paul Michael is hoping to have 3 players returning to the squad today. With all of
them missing Tuesday's FA Cup tie. Craig Norman and Liam Angel all look set to
return in addition we are hopeful Sam Kamara has recovered from his knee injury
and will be available once again.
And on to today’s match and our opponents. Last season we only played the away
fixture with the return leg, scheduled for the 24 March postponed due to the early
th
end to the season. When we met at the Avenue Stadium in October we enjoyed
plenty of opportunity with Louis Britton having a number of chances, but just not
able to convert them. At the time Callum Brooks’ men were languishing in the
relegation zone prior to kick-off but took their chances well and secured a precious
victory – their first at home since a 1-0 triumph over Beaconsfield on August 10.
This helped elevate them from the bottom three. Neil Martin claimed a rare goal in
the 25th minute, heading home a Charlie Davis corner before Tom Blair added a
second seven minutes later in a crucial double salvo. The Magpies had to resist late
Yate pressure but held strong to gain what would have been a precious win had the
season played out. Like us Dorchester suffered an early exist from the FA Cup on
Tuesday night losing out in an away fixture to Wessex League Premier Division club
Christchurch. This followed away defeat in their opening league fixture at the hands
of Weston-Super-Mare where Rubin Wilson scored their only goal in a 4-1 scoreline
watched by an impressive crowd of 401. season”
