Bristol City have reached the semi finals of the FA Women’s
Continental Tyres League Cup for only the second time in the club’s
history after beating Aston Villa 2-1 at Twerton
       Park.
The Robins have endured a disappointing
season so far in the league but have fared much
better in the Cup and after a goalless first half, they
took the lead ten minutes after the restart when
Ebony Salmon cut in from the right to fire home
from fifteen yards to give her side the lead. Three
minutes later, former Villa striker Salmon inflicted
further damage on her old club with an even better
goal, outpacing the Villa defence before rounding
Sian Rogers to score her second. Villa gave
themselves renewed hope when Stine Larsen
headed in from close range with four minutes
remaining but City stood firm for a morale boosting Bristol City’s Yana Daniels takes on Caroline Siems of
       victory. Aston Villa (Will Cheshire).
The other quarter final tie to be played this
week was an all-FA Women’s Championship clash between Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
Both teams were aiming to book their place in the last four for the first time and this resulted in a
largely evenly contested first half finishing on level terms. Leicester began to press after the break
but were not finding it easy to get through a well organised Palace defence, whose goalkeeper
Emma Gibbon was in impressive form.
With extra time looming, the deadlock was broken with a minute remaining. After being
awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, Remi Allen rolled the ball aside for Natasha Flint to
crash a powerful shot into the top corner and put Leicester ahead. There was no time for Palace to
reply and Leicester celebrated a hard earned 1-0 win which leaves them one game away from
becoming the first Championship club to reach a Continental Cup Final.
The draw for the semi-finals of the 2020-21 FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup
will be broadcast live this Sunday (17th January) in the half time interval of the Barclays FA
Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester City and Aston Villa on the BBC Red Button.
The two remaining quarter finals are due to be played next week, with Manchester City
welcoming holders Chelsea on Wednesday 20th January (5.30pm), and West Ham United hosting
Durham Women the following evening (Thursday, 5.30pm).
The draw will be carried out by former England international goalkeeper, Siobhan
Chamberlain, and will be overseen by the BBC’s Kelly Somers at around 1.25pm.
The two semi-finals are scheduled to take place on 3/4 February, and will both be
streamed live on The FA Player.
The tenth final of the competition is due to be played on Sunday 14th March with the venue
to be confirmed in due course.

Assistant Coach. Cori is a former Arsenal, Charlton Athletic and Watford player with a career that
