Spencer Day’s side ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against bottom-markers Kings Langley
at the Easy As HGV Stadium. But what a start to the game! If it wasn’t going to be hard
enough for struggling Kings Langley, they had goalkeeper Alfie Marriott sent-off in the very
first minute for handling the ball outside the box! Defender Kyle Connolly had to don the
gloves, but it was a wicked deflection off his own player, Jorrell Johnson, that finally beat
him after 24 minutes. It was 2-0 in the 38th minute when new loan signing from Aldershot
Town, Elis Watts, scored on debut and was later named as man of the match. Three minutes
after half-time though, Kings gave ‘Boro a wake-up call when Harrison Crawford reduced the
deficit. But Paul Hodges after 65 minutes and then Elliott Buchanan 11 minutes from time
made sure there was to be no comeback.
Salisbury moved up to fourth spot after they won 3-1 at the Optima Stadium against
Weston-super-Mare. A crowd of 719 saw Sam Ashton give the visitors a great start with
a goal after less than three minutes. Dayle Grubb pulled the Seagulls level after 27 minutes
but just three minutes into the second half, Tom Blair restored Salisbury`s lead.
On 57 minutes Weston-super-Mare keeper Luke Purnell pulled Antonio Diaz down and he
was sent-off. Scott Laird had to don the gloves but was beaten by Ashton`s penalty.
Metropolitan Police suffered their first league defeat of the season to date – and was by
a Merthyr Town side whose last victory was back on August 28th. It was goalless at the
break, but less than a minute after the restart, Keyon Reffell gave the Martyrs the lead. And
four minutes later, it got even better for the visitors when Ismail Yakubu scored a cracking
second. Ollie Robinson pulled one back for the Met eight minutes from time, but they were
unable to prevent the first loss of 2021/22.
The Met’s defeat allowed Poole Town to move into fourth after they beat Hendon 2-1 at
the Black Gold Stadium. The Dolphins had to come back from being a 13th minute Hamza
Semakula goal down though. And it wasn’t until just after the hour-mark that they grabbed
an equaliser from Jamie Whisken. And it was top scorer Tony Lee who again came up trumps
for Poole, netting the 83rd-minute winner.
Taunton Town moved into sixth after they hammered Beaconsfield Town 7-1 at The
Cygnet Health Care Stadium. Toby Holmes put the Peacocks in front after 17 minutes with
a long-range effort. And he doubled their lead right on the stroke of half-time.
Gethyn Hill then made it 3-0 just a couple of minutes after the restart, only for Nathan
Minhas to pull one back for the Rams three minutes later. Holmes completed his hat-trick
from a 59th-minute penalty and then Taunton ‘keeper Will Buse denied Toby Little from the
spot at the other end on 74 minutes. That seemed to deflate the visitors who conceded three
more to Ross Staley on 77 minutes, a Luke Neville own goal 2 minutes later and then new
arrival from Ashton & Backwell, Conor Hartley, completed the rout 2 minutes from time.
Neighbours Tiverton Town moved into eighth after a rather more considered 1-0 win at
the Ian Moorcroft Stadium against second-bottom Wimborne Town. A goal three minutes
before half-time from Olaf Koszela eventually proved enough for the Yellows.
Dorchester Town’s woes continue as they were beaten 5-1 at The Meadow by Chesham
United. The Magpies looked to have held firm for the opening half, until Ronny Mfinda
popped up to give the Generals the lead in injury-time. Brad Clayton doubled the hosts’ lead
four minutes after the break, but Alfie Stanley pulled Dorchester back into the game five
minutes later. Then on 73 minutes, a goalmouth scramble ends with an own goal from
Thiago Caze Da Silva. Sub Brandon Barzey completed a nap hand for Chesham with a brace
in the 78th and 82nd minutes.
The day`s other game saw Walton Casuals and Swindon Supermarine share the spoils
in a 1-1 draw at the Elmbridge Sports Hub. Ryan Campbell gave ‘Marine the lead two
minutes before half-time. The Stags were awarded a way back into the game after 63
minutes when Adam Liddle was adjudged to have been fouled in the area and Rohdell
Gordon converted the resulting penalty.
