Page 9 - Technology Plan ICT Review
P. 9

Up to date and current training practices are just as important as hav- ing the latest technology equipment. Ironically most equipment and software is not fully utilized until it becomes out of date. Therefore, clear school ICT expectations provides the opportunity for district to develop plans to support these initiatives at the school level. Now that the existing technology is serv- ing our needs across the district, it is time to look beyond the normal mainte- nance tasks and ensure that the current technology is being fully utilized. The district will continue to support equity specific to technology support at each school in order to provide consistent inservicing to all schools. With that being said, ICT implementation now allows schools to go beyond the ba- sic everyday technology expectations. This is not a bad position to be in but it does require a vision, support and leadership at the school level.
The current ICT and CTS review being completed by the IPC at each school will address the following objectives:
Lead Teacher Support Expectations
Lead Teacher Support Resources
ICT Expectations for Staff
ICT and CTS scope and sequence
Software and Hardware Inventories
Training Schedules and Calendars
Identifying Ongoing ICT Training Opportunities Identifying Possible ICT Evaluation Tools and Resources
School Administration Feedback

The school specific models for ICT support and implementation were summa- rized and posted online in a Campus Crossing discussion area. All parties were then given one week to discuss the support model they wish to imple- ment across the district.
The following items represent a summary of the major issues discussed as a group.

I think what I need is help from the creative tech types in forming a vision of technology. Unless we know what the possibilities are, it's difficult to see the future. Maybe administrators and some non tech staff need to attend a tech- nology conference to see what's on the horizon.

ICT is a happening at all schools at various levels.
The evaluation of ICT outcome completion varies from site to site.
A consistent ICT evaluation process is required for all schools.
The evaluation of ICT implementation has to be a valued process that provides meaningful data. This data can then be used to adjust and adapt support and learning resources.
The evaluation of ICT will be incorporated into long-range plans for all teachers so administration can gauge the level of ICT implementation throughout the school.
Certain schools may choose to use more than just long range plans to gauge the level of ICT implementation at their school. Example: Telus projects, lab sign out sheets
CTS/ICT scope and sequence activities are valuable tools to assess what outcomes are being completed at particular grades. Reference: the Alberta Learning Divisional outcomes document. The ICT review will outline the division specific outcomes for each school.
Consistent guidelines are required for ICT lead teachers at each site. Consistent guidelines are required for staff at each site.
All staff require some form of additional ICT support in order to be suc- cessful in the use of technology in their school.
