With respect to the Dr. Bernard Brosseau School, suggested improvements include: By June 2001
• The Server Closet should be locked, not doubled as a book storage room. Book storage rooms tend to be too dry, and have too much static electricity.
• Wiring needs to be appropriately terminated in Lab.
With respect to the Mackenzie River Elementary School, suggested improvements include: By June 2001
• The Library laser printer needs an Ethernet card installed and connected properly to the network.
• The Wireless WAN operation problem needs to be resolved.
• The Server Closet needs to be moved for security reasons, or
made more secure.
• The Macintosh computers should all have Ethernet cards
installed, thus making them available on the network, for use as Internet web browsers, word processors, etc. These machines have many years of life left in them and should be utilized wherever possible. The LaserPrinter is a very high-end model, and should be connected to the Ethernet network as any platform can print to it.
• The inkjet printers should be removed from the school, and perhaps a single laser printer could be setup on each floor for shared use by all classrooms.
• Technical support (free or otherwise) from family members of staff and students should be eliminated and computers should be locked down from any unauthorized tampering.
With respect to the Assumption Jr/Sr High School, suggested improvements include: By June 2001
• The Lab desks need to be made permanent, and wiring should be redone so it adequately reaches all workstations. All cables need to be cleaned up and put away.
• The Breezecom modem needs to be mounted in the ceiling space where it will be secure from unwanted use. The Wireless system needs to be made functional, so the 56K Internet feed can be removed.
• The Science Labs should have the mounted TVs moved to another part of the room. They are in a high-traffic spot that can lead to bumping.

With respect to the St. Dominic Elementary School, suggested improvements include: By June 2001
• Fix the wireless so the WAN connectivity will work.
• Move the Server Closet to a secure place, or build a good solid cabinet around the existing Server Closet to provide
some level of security.
• Install Ethernet cards in the Macintosh computers to enable
them to be used throughout the school for Internet browsing, word processing, e-mail, etc.
With respect to the Central Office suggested improvements include: By June 2001
• Maintain the existing system, potentially making the Xerox DC230 a networked model to provide better printing services for the District.
With respect to the Deputy Superintendent’s Office in Cold Lake, suggested improvements include: By Jan 2001
• Run a 10base2 ThinNet outdoor cable overhead from the church to the Assumption Jr/Sr High School school. This will give the Deputy Superintendent network connectivity for access to file servers, Internet, and potentially e-mail.

4.4 Hardware and Software Standards
This section will deal with hardware and software both from a standardization view, and from a utilization perspective. The following actions will provide additional improvements in the LANs.
4.4.1 Remove all the D-Link 10/100 parallel printer servers. Install LexMark MarkNet Ethernet cards networking all of the printers, which support connectivity both Macintosh and PC computers over the Ethernet network. All printers should be directly connected to the network. None should be connected via the parallel port to a workstation, as standalone network devices. If possible, the printers should be connected over the network to the Novell Servers, and have the print jobs managed by the servers. By Sept. 2001
4.4.2 The District does not have a large number of Macintosh computers, but their deployment and implementation can be improved. None of the Macintosh computers have Ethernet cards in them, and none of them are connected to the school LANs. Improvements could be achieved as follows:
By Jan. 2001
• All Macintosh computers should have an Ethernet card installed and connected to the network.
• Printers should be redistributed so that high-powered Apple printers are available to the entire school, and not just the Lab. (i.e. connected to the Ethernet network)
