Labyrinth Building Penny Estall
We gathered on a rather windswept day on the beach beside Boscombe Pier. We started just as the
tide was going out, using poles, a piece of rope with sections of pipe let into it at suitable intervals,
some string and a rake.
We learnt many things; the tidal range by the pier is not very great; people like to stand and stare; the
pier was a good vantage point; the method worked! However, the. Labyrinth was almost as large as
the space available and so it was completed in bare feed (in October) and rather than walking the laby-
rinth in a contemplative fashion the only way to do it was to run while it still existed.
This was a trial run. The “real thing” will be when the three local Area Meetings; Hampshire and the
Islands, Dorset and South Wiltshire and Bournemouth Coastal join together to make a labyrinth on Sat-
th
urday 10 May 2025. We hope this will of interest to passersby and we can use this for outreach and
consciousness raising about the effects of pollution on the environment as part of the Beaches of
Dreams project.
