There is No Time in Eternity
Davina and Donalda were kind enough to take me to Ann Gould’s
Thanksgiving Service and it was such a beautiful and peaceful one
wasn’t it? I happened to say to Donna as we waited for the service
to start – ‘Christ said, “This day you will be with me in Paradise”
and I added. “There is no time in Paradise as it is Eternity.”
As we are still in time, it is difficult for people to understand.
I remembered a verse in one of our favourite hymns
‘Amazing Grace’, that does interpret this in a simple way.
‘When we’ve been there a thousand years
Uprising as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing thy praise
As when we first began’
A verse from Psalm 90 v4 echoes this by saying ‘One
thousand years are as the blinking of an eye to God’.
John 19 v 28 tells us that Christ knew ‘All things were ALREADY
ACCOMPLISHED’ which again helps us realise there is NO TIME
with God. If everything is over how can time exist?
Another apt quotation from the Bible is ‘It is not given to man to
know all things for if he did he would be as God.’ That sounds like
St Paul doesn’t it?
Daniel 12 v 3 tells us that after death ‘those who are wise shall
shine like the brightness of the stars for ever and ever.
Martin Luther wrote, ‘The afterlife is God’s business and we don’t
have to worry about it!’
I have thought and said to my family who are amused, that it could
be a bit ‘boring just to Worship God for ever.’
May I have forgiveness.
If anyone has any tips to help me understand that Eternity has NO
TIME, we’d love to know.
